ACTEGA Rhenania was founded as Rhenania Chemische Gesellschaft mbH in Grevenbroich in 1915. In the beginning Rhenania concentrated on the production of colours for the wallpaper industry, which was a specialty at the time. After various corporate changes Rhenania has been a part of ALTANA AG since 1977. Ever since the mid-1980s Rhenania has concentrated on special varnishes for packaging. As an enterprise that is rich in tradition we accept our social responsibility for mankind and environment. Environmental protection and safety are basic goals of our enterprise that are equal in standing to economic goals.

The ALTANA Group has defined unified environmental standards and safety standards for the entire enterprise. The chemical industry’s "Responsible Care" project is a vital basis for these standards; all enterprises belonging to ALTANA worldwide have agreed to keep these standards. Through its integration in ALTANA Rhenania has direct access to a wide range of know-how and is thus one of the most competent producers of packaging varnishes worldwide.
