Dear Sir or Madam, Lehrte, September 2008

drupa is over and also summer comes to an end. The chemical and the printing industry are facing big challenges. The development of the oil and energy prices as well as the economic slowdown make the business environment more difficult. In order to remain successful in the market, there are different options. ACTEGA Terra focuses on quality, innovation and efficiency. Also today, we would like to present you solutions in order to enable a profitable positioning.

Coatings for the inline cold foiling

As an alternative to hot foil stamping, the inline cold foiling has become increasingly important. In just one process, the foil is applied on the substrate, printed and coated. The results are impressive metallic and colour effects.

Coatings must particularly correspond to the requirements of the cold foiling. The reason: The foil prevents the absorption of printing inks into the substrate. This slows down the drying process, sheets may block in the pile.

The water based TerraWet Special Coating G 9/595 W is formulated in a way that enables printing inks to dry oxidatively through the coating layer. This characteristic as well as the fast drying of the coating itself make a quick processing possible. At the same time, the coating is block resistant, scratch and scuff resistant, shows a low tendency to crackling and a good gloss.

For very fast production speeds use the TerraWet Gloss Coating G 9/640. This coating is very fast drying and provides an especially even surface. Additionally, it is oxygen permeable as well as scratch and scuff resistant.

The proof of coatings

A proof facilitates the coordination between printer and print buyer. With the objective to identify and eliminate mistakes in the printing files, it simulates the later printing outcome. Is the result satisfying, it can be replicated in the printing process.

Well-known are proofs with regard to layout, colouring and positioning of the printing motive. New, however, is the possibility to representatively demonstrate the coating. By means of modern proof technology, the Rudolf Reproflex GmbH & Co. KG provides printing simulations of real production conditions. Here, the company applies matt, gloss and high gloss coatings by ACTEGA Terra to the original substrates.

The advantage: With a proof, print buyers are able to see and feel the coating effect already before the final printing approval. This does not only facilitate the print buyer's decision but also simplifies the agreement and printing approval process between brand owner, agency and printer.

Coatings for PE-coated substrates

PE-coated substrates make high demands on the technical properties of coatings. They have to enable the printing ink to dry oxidatively through the coating layer. The reason: PE hinders the absorption of inks into the substrate. As a consequence, the drying process slows down, sheets can block in the pile.

The water based TerraWet Special Coating G 9/221 meets the requirements of PE-coated substrates. The coating shows a good gloss, is wet block resistant and oxygen permeable. Its very good scratch and scuff resistance and its extremely fast drying make a quick and safe processing possible. As an alternative with a pleasant matt level choose the TerraWet Special Coating G 9/221 M.

Both coatings are heat resistant and suitable for the coating of double-sided PE-coated substrates. If you use a substrate where just the rearside is PE-coated, corresponding products are also available. Please do not hesitate to contact us for consultation.

Matt surfaces without structure

Matt coatings provide your surfaces with a high-value character. However, if the matt pigments in the coating produce unrequested structure, the quality of the printing image is negatively affected.

With the water based TerraWet Matt Coating G 9/45 matt you work against this challenge. This coating does not contain any matt pigments and enables the presentation of matt areas without structure. It is scratch and scuff resistant and shows a good block resistance. It is applied out of the coating unit in sheet-fed offset.

By the way: You find the TerraWet Matt Coating G 9/45 matt on our printing sample with the jaguar. Here, it provides the basis for the TerraGloss UV Spot Coating G 8/292 NVK. See for yourself and contact us for your personal copy.

TerraGreen on the WWF Annual Report

The TerraGreen Matt Coating G 5/100 silky matt found a high profile application. The WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Annual Report was coated with this product.

Again, the coating demonstrated its positive technical characteristics. Just as classical water based coatings, it was easily processed. The result: A sustainable printing product with a high-value coating based on renewable resources.

Go Green.
