The processing of waterbased matt coatings asks a lot of the printer. The higher the matt level, the higher the danger of polishing up the coating layer. Additionally, there is a higher scratch sensitivity of the coating surface.

The consequence: for the long way from printing over processing to the transport of your printing product, you need a matt coating that you can rely on.

The TERRAWET Matt Coating G 9/60 dull matt is especially resistant. It provides your printing product with optimum scratch and scuff resistance and safe production conditions. Next to stable technical properties, the TERRAWET Matt Coating G 9/60 dull matt has a high matt level. Its application: folding boxes and commercial prints.

Alternatively, we recommend the TERRAWET Matt Coating G 9/56 M matt. This coating is applicable on all substrates, therefore also suitable for label printing. It shows only low tendency to polishing up and a low tendency to crackling. High scuff resistance is part of the technical properties as well as the good flatness.  

Hot foil stamping consists of several steps. The printed and mostly coated substrate is covered with a stamping foil. On this foil, you press a heated stamp. Due to heat and pressure, the foil reacts with the coating, and consequently, it sticks to the substrate.

Apart from waterbased coatings, also UV based products for hot foil stamping are part of the ACTEGA Terra programme. The TERRAGLOSS UV Special Varnish G 8/251 F VK shows high gloss and a very good flow out. It is characterised by high reactivity and a good scratch resistance. The varnish can be applied inline and offline.

Alternatively, we recommend the TERRAGLOSS UV Special Varnish G 8/242 F VK. Characterised by the same technical properties as the TERRAGLOSS UV Special Varnish G 8/251 F VK, this varnish is additionally certified for the indirect contact with foodstuffs.

The advantage of UV varnishes for hot foil stamping: Your printing product is provided with impressive gloss - the stamping appears particularly valuable. Additionally, the prompt drying allows a fast processing.  

At the beginning of this year, we informed you about migration in relation to waterbased and UV based coatings. Since then, this topic has not lost any of its importance.

Our waterbased coatings are naturally migrationless. In order to officially confirm this fact, accredited institutes have audited a high number of our waterbased coatings within the last months. The result: new certifications for various coating applications - and therefore more safety for you. There are certificates for matt, gloss and high gloss coatings as well as for special coatings and barrier coatings.

One example is the TERRAWET Gloss Coating G 9/230. This coating is characterised by fast drying and a high wet block resistance. Additionally, it is scratch and scuff resistant. Its application can be one- or two-sided. You are looking for a certified matt or high gloss coating? Choose the TERRAWET Matt Coating G 9/56 M matt or the TERRAWET High Gloss Coating G 9/285. Both products are characterised by stable technical properties.

The TERRAWET Barrier Coating G 9/305 IMP is heat resistant between 180°C and 200°C, depending on the used material. Certified for direct contact with foodstuffs, this coating builds up a temporary barrier against oil, fat and water. While being scratch and scuff resistant, this coating shows high gloss.

The tobacco industry requires a lot from their cigarette packagings - and from the coating. The TERRAWET Gloss Coating G 9/640 PM fulfills the high requirements of the tobacco industry. It has an extremely fast drying and shows a good scratch and scuff resistance.

An important fact: The TERRAWET Gloss Coating G 9/640 PM corresponds to Philip Morris, British American Tobacco and JTI. It can be applied in all printing processes (gravure, offset and flexo) and is especially suitable for high printing machine speeds.

Non-absorbent surfaces, as for example laminated foil or cast-coated paper, prevent the absorption of printing inks into the substrate. On one hand, this means high gloss for your printing product. On the other hand, the sealing of the substrate's surface slows down the drying of your printing inks, sheets may block in the pile.

By applying coatings, you face the above mentioned challenges effectively. Whether you use waterbased coatings or UV based varnishes for non-absorbent substrates, all coatings by ACTEGA Terra are characterised by stable technical properties: a very good scuff resistance, a high wet block resistance as well as the fast drying of coatings.
