Sheet-fed offset, ink duct

If a printing press is not equipped with a coating unit, it is possible to use the ink duct for a coating application. Instead of processing oil based coatings, high viscosity waterbased coatings are available for the ink duct.

These coatings are especially adapted to the ink duct. Unlike oil based coatings, they are not applied via fountain solution but via a corresponding coating blanket. For an optimal distribution in the rollers of the ink duct, they are correspondingly delayed in their drying. On the sheet, their drying is fast.

The advantage of waterbased coatings out of the ink duct compared to oil based coatings is, among other facts, their low tendency to yellowing and the better odor and taste neutrality.
