In many cases, commercial prints consist of a text and image combination. For text passages, silky matt or neutral surfaces are preferred to ensure a better readability and a more pleasant visual appearance. Amongst others, the coating provides protection for the printed product and a fast further processing.
At the same time, high gloss images are required. These, however, can just be achieved in combination with a gloss coating or by doing without coatings. But without coatings, the well-known disadvantages appear, as for example a high need of powder, danger of blocking or a restricted scuff resistance.
How does matt&gloss work? The TerraEffekt matt&gloss G 9/707 is applied full-area like a traditional waterbased coating (coating unit, chambered doctor blade). The impressive results are two different effects at the same time.
Using glossy coated substrates, the coating develops high gloss values on areas with high ink coverage. On unprinted areas, however, it provides a pleasant matt surface.
The coating supports the brilliance of the printing inks and correspondingly emphasizes the images of the printed product. This effect is intensified by the simultaneous matting of the paper's surface. The result is a pleasant contrast and a brilliant print.
Which results can I achieve?Practical experience shows that gloss differences up to 30 gloss points and more can be achieved by applying the TerraEffekt matt&gloss G 9/707. The results are dependent on procedural parameters. Substrate and printing inks have most influence.
The TerraEffekt matt&gloss G 9/707 has been extensively tested. 400 different combinations of substrates, ink series and anilox rollers have been analysed.
Especially by using glossy substrates, the effect is strong. However, it also depends on the composition of the printing image which visual impressions can be achieved. Advantageous for the development of high gloss values are areas with high ink coverage or full tones.
