Primer
Finishing becomes more and more important in the printing industry. The right grounding makes a decisive contribution to the
finishing results.
Primers are special coatings that take over the function of
an adhesion promoter between substrate and a subsequent
finishing.
For this purpose, different possibilities of finishing come into consideration in which specially matched primers are required and/or contribute significantly to the result improvement. Typical finishings are UV
coating offline or inline on conventional inks. But also in case of
film lamination or bronzing the employment of the right primer
determines the result. There are also special primers for printing
and coating in a second pass, if sufficient ink ducts are not
available in one pass.
The primer guarantees a consistent surface tension. An absorption
of the finishing material into the printing material is prevented
to a large extent by the consistent surface. In addition, primers
offer many advantages which enable trouble-free converting:
minimization of blocking, minimization of the powder employment
and no scratching.
