Glossy results for Late Stage Customization

NEW: Full-area coating, flexible encoding in LED-UV inkjet printing

Until now, folding carton boards finished with water-based coatings represented a challenge for late stage customization. In particular, there were shortcomings in the area of adhesion, scratch resistance and printing quality of the LED-UV ink. In a joint project, Atlantic Zeiser, Tritron and ACTEGA matched the ink and offset coating formulations in such a way that the two harmonize perfectly.

PREVIOUS SOLUTIONS

In the past, those limitations mentioned above were mostly compensated by coating recess or by means of physical pre-treatment technology. However, both solutions limit the flexibility, efficiency and process reliability of Late Stage Customization. Moreover, the advertising effect of packaging can suffer from the lack of coating (missing gloss, no protective function). Pre-treatment technologies, such as corona or plasma systems, increase the investment costs in a late stage customization solution.

It was the objective of this development project to create solutions that fully exploit the advantages of inkjet printing.
