Materials like oil, fat and water have an influence on the quality of packaging. They affect the substrate and damage the printing inks. Barrier coatings seal the substrate‘s surface and protect the packaging from outer and inner influences. Like this, the packaging can fulfil its tasks without restrictions.
TerraWet® barrier coatings provide a temporary effect against fat, water, water vapor, dairy products, alcohol, oil or alkali – depending on your requirements!
In the packaging industry, barriers are often realized by means of multi-layered outer packaging or lamination with PE film. The disadvantage: These products create waste and require high recycling effort. Thus, water-based barrier coatings represent an environmentally-friendly option.
However, due to their temporary effect and depending on requirements, barrier coatings may not replace PE layers in an equivalent way. We are happy to advise you.
