FoodClass® Coatings

Certified UV coatings for the indirect food contact

  • Certified for the indirect contact to dry and fat-including foodstuffs without the use of a functional or absolute barrier
  • Based on photoinitiators listed in EuPIA Suitability List of Photoinitiators and Photosynergists for Food Contact Materials and part of the SR 817.023.21, list A
  • Compliant with the Nestlé “Guidance Note on Packaging Inks“ (exception: oven/microwave)
  • Exclusive use of higher (>2) acrylated monomers and binders

FoodClass® coatings have been and continue to be in line with the EuPIA Suitability List, also considering the deliberately stricter self-obligation criteria with regard to effective consumer protection.

The safest way to apply UV coatings on food packaging is to provide a barrier. However, if there is no barrier available, just suitable UV coatings come into question corresponding to applicable food packaging regulations. In contrast to dedicated water-based coatings, UV coatings can be used for the indirect food contact only. FoodClass® relies on raw materials that can be well integrated into the coating, have a low migration potential and fit to food packaging.

FoodClass counts on high-molecular photoinitiators. Moreover, we also evaluate other relevant components of the coating, such as binders, monomers and additives.
