Highlights from the AMI Single-Serve Capsules Conference

From March 18–19, 2025, the AMI Single-Serve Coffee Capsules Conference took place in Tampa, Florida. The event brought together industry leaders and professionals to explore the latest advancements and challenges in single-serve systems. Presentations and discussions focused on innovation, sustainability, and market trends shaping the future of the industry. The 7^th edition of this successful event attracted participants from across the entire value chain, including raw material suppliers, machine manufacturers, printers, punchers, and brand owners. Beyond knowledge-sharing, the conference served as a valuable platform for building meaningful partnerships and driving progress across the industry.

A key topic throughout the event was the push for greater recyclability and sustainability in single-serve systems. ACTEGA emphasized the role of aluminum as an ideal packaging material. Aluminum coffee capsules, in particular, stand for premium quality, as their outstanding barrier properties optimally protect the coffee powder from disruptive environmental influences such as air, light, and moisture, thus ensuring that the full aroma of the coffee is retained. Aluminum is a circular material that can be endlessly recycled without losing its original properties. This means that the use of recycled aluminum can make a decisive contribution to CO₂ savings.

Dr. Bernd Elsler, Global Market Manager Aluminium Foil at ACTEGA, took the stage to address the increasing complexity faced by the industry in his presentation. He spoke about the challenge of aligning sustainability goals with rising cost pressures, the demand for continuous innovation, and a tightening regulatory environment. Attendees were also given a virtual tour of ACTEGA’s lab facilities, highlighting the company’s R&D capabilities. A standout moment of his presentation was the introduction of ACTEGA’s latest PVC-free heat seal lacquer for high-pressure brewing systems. Developed in cooperation with Aluflexpack, this innovation is now being brought to market as a sustainable, high-performance solution offering excellent sealing behavior while enhancing recyclability and complying with standard market food regulations.
