On the way to “net zero emissions”
ALTANA, and with it ACTEGA as part of the ALTANA Group, has committed itself to operating virtually greenhouse gas-free worldwide by 2050 and to achieving "net zero emissions".
Specifically, emissions across the entire value chain (Scopes 1, 2 and 3) will be reduced by 90 percent by then.
The organization will permanently remove any remaining unavoidable emissions from the atmosphere using recognized processes.
Already by 2040, ALTANA aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within its direct sphere of influence (Scopes 1 and 2) by 90 percent.

ACTEGA is implementing a wide range of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support a sustainable future. Find out more about how we are making our planet a little bluer.
Building on significant progress
ALTANA's goal of 'net zero emissions' has been confirmed by the internationally renowned Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). To this end, ALTANA underwent a SBTi process to have its own targets independently assessed and verified.
ALTANA is building on its significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in recent years. Between 2014 and 2023, the company successfully reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by around 70 percent. In 2020, ALTANA transitioned its global electricity procurement entirely to renewable energy sources, among other initiatives. From 2025, ALTANA will offset its remaining greenhouse gas emissions in Scopes 1 and 2 as well as selected Scope 3 categories by financing climate protection projects outside its value chain.
To operate virtually greenhouse gas-free worldwide in all three scopes by 2050, ALTANA is prioritizing the electrification of processes and vehicles, the purchase of sustainable raw materials – increasingly from suppliers who have committed themselves to SBTi-approved climate targets – and the further reduction of transport routes through increased use of the company's decentralized purchasing and production network.
