Certified UV coatings for food packaging

These UV coatings have been certified for the use on food packaging in the indirect contact to dry and fat-including foodstuffs without the use of a functional or absolute barrier. All products meet regulatory requirements and comply with the overall and specific migration limits. External and/or internal migration studies have been conducted for each coating.

EXCLUSIVE USE OF HIGH REACTIVE RAW MATERIALS

A very important fact about FoodClass® UV Coatings is their exclusive use of high reactive raw materials (minimum tri-functional). These raw materials integrate well into the coating, so they are low-migration and suitable for the printing of food packaging. High molecular photoinitiators provide a lower migration potential in the cured coating film; higher acrylic monomers ensure a strong crosslinking. This approach is also performed for other relevant coating components, such as binders and additives.

FoodClass® UV coatings are the right choice for customers who face high regulatory requirements for their end-use application and who request the highest level of support in their compliance work. For each coating, external/internal migration studies have been conducted at a product level. A good risk management system has been installed, as not only those substances are evaluated that are intentionally added to the product (IAS), but also those that are not intentionally added (NIAS). In order to ensure more productivity and higher speeds in the printing process, the operating range of all coatings is known and defined (25 - 70 mJ; 10,000 - 14,000 sheets/h evaluated).
